Christopher Nolan: From Bruce Wayne To Howard Hughes?

Christopher Nolan is planning on going from one billionaire (Bruce Wayne) to another (Howard Hughes).
Nolan is already looking forward to life after Batman (and who can blame him? It must be a drag making these big awesome comic book movies that make you filthy rich). The final installment in his trilogy, "The Dark Knight Rises," will keep him busy at least through its release in July 2012... but Nolan is already thinking beyond that.
So where will the "Memento" mastermind go once Bruce Wayne has hung up his cape and cowl? According to Vulture, he'll be venturing into the mind of another eccentric and very rich man: Howard Hughes.

Nolan had plans for a Hughes biopic several years ago but abandoned the idea once it was certain that Martin Scorsese was going to beat him to the punch with "The Aviator," which starred Nolan's "Inception" hero, Leonardo DiCaprio, as Hughes.
Nolan plans on possibly shooting his Hughes pic in late 2012 with an eye toward a 2014 release, which will be ten years after the release of Scorsese's film -- in theory, enough time will have passed to not draw too much comparison between the two.
Nolan will be drawing from different source material as well. "The Aviator" was based largely on Charles Higham's "Howard Hughes: The Secret Life," which focused on Hughes' early life through 1947. Nolan's project will be based on Michael Drosnin's "Citizen Hughes: The Power, the Money and the Madness," which focuses on the freakier decades of Hughes' secretive and OCD-addled life.
And with that, it's never too early for speculation as to who will play Nolan's Hughes! We'd love to see DiCaprio play the same role, several years later and under a different director. But as that might be a bit too meta (even for Nolan), our vote is for Guy Pearce, who's long overdue for another Nolan movie.
The project isn't officially greenlit, though as soon as "The Dark Knight Rises" makes a zillion dollars, we're sure Warner Bros. will give Nolan another blank check like they did with "Inception."
